This meeting was a big one - after four years of building this wonderful nonprofit with a very small volunteer team to support our neighborhood, we are excited to welcome four very capable new people to lead it! The current team is not completely stepping away - we'll still be members and support where we're needed, but we're excited for all the new ideas and new ways Cottage Grove will be improved in the future!
Tons of progress has been made since last time we met. Here's the TLDR, but you can also view the slides from the meeting or check out the notes.
The playground at Cottage Grove Park was completed
We hosted a super fun and adorable playground ribbon cutting with Santa
We planted trees at Cottage Grove Park that were funded by a $10,000 grant from Union Pacific Foundation
CenterPoint completed moving gas lines on Kansas to prepare for future sidewalk infrastructure being added
Precinct 4 received a $2 million grant called Reconnecting Communities to study putting a green cap over I-10, and they matched it with a $500,000 investment - a huge win for our neighborhood and the first step in making it happen
A group of Cottage Grove residents advocated for infrastructure improvements at City Council with the support of Council Member Kamin
We got TxDOT to commit to fixing the large amount of sidewalks they broke and ditches they messed up as a part of Hempstead Highway construction
Thanks to the community and all the volunteers who work so hard to make good things happen in Cottage Grove. It takes all of us to make this kind of progress!
